Selecting an instrument for Orchestra

Starting in third grade, your child  has the opportunity to do what so many successful students have done before them, Be Part of the ORCHESTRA! Every destination starts with a decision to embark on a journey.  Now is the time to start your child in music and the Forest Ridge Orchestra is the place to do it. Below are buttons that will like to  videos that demonstrate what each individual instrument looks and sounds like. ORCHESTRA

VIOLIN
• Smallest instrument in the string orchestra
• Highest pitched instrument
• Famous violinist include Joshua Bell, Itzhak Perlman, and Hillary Hahn

VIOLA
• Played like the violin but has the same strings as the cello
• Middle pitched instrument
• Famous violist include Lionel Tertis, Nobuku Imai, and Lawrence Power
Cello
• Played sitting down
• Has thicker strings than the violin or viola to produce a lower sound
• Famous cellists include Yo-Yo Ma, Pablo Casals, and Mstislav Rostropovich
Bass
• Biggest instrument in the string orchestra
• Lowest pitched instrument
• Famous bassists include Linda McKnight, Salvatore Macchia, and Leon Bosch
